ATI Service Sourcing

Custom-fit automotive TPE floor mats and leather protector covers for a Sydney vehicle retailer network.

Background & Client Sourcing Goal

A leading automotive accessories retailer in Sydney, operating multiple stores across New South Wales, sought to import custom-fit TPE floor mats and heavy-duty canvas seat covers. They aimed to establish a direct-factory sourcing channel to replace local distributor contracts, improve profit margins, and ensure customized branding with embroidered logo labels.

Supply Chain & Technical Challenges

Automotive interior accessories must withstand high summer temperatures without releasing chemical odors or losing shape. The main challenges included:

  • 3D Scanning Accuracy: Guaranteeing that floor mats fit right-hand drive (RHD) vehicle floor designs popular in Australia (such as Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Mazda CX-5).
  • Material Odor Control: Preventing the use of cheap PVC blends that emit toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when cars are parked under hot Australian sun.
  • Packaging Layouts: Preventing TPE mats from warping or bending when stacked inside high-cube container space during 3-week sea transits.

Factory Selection & Quality Inspection

We sourced floor mats from Tiantai (Zhejiang) and canvas seat covers from Guangzhou (Guangdong). Our inspectors conducted audits to verify mold accuracy and material safety standards:

  • Fitment Verifications: Auditing mat shapes against original RHD vehicle CAD files and testing prototype samples in actual vehicle cabins before starting mass production.
  • Chamber Baking Audits: Testing TPE material samples in a lab oven at 85°C for 48 hours to confirm zero thermal deformation and zero chemical odor emission.
  • Sewing Checks: Verifying canvas seat cover seam strengths and auditing the dynamic stitching design to ensure side-airbags deploy safely.

Shipping Consolidation & Outcomes

Our Guangzhou depot consolidated the seat covers and floor mats, loading them flat in a 40HQ container to prevent creasing. Sourced items cleared customs at Port Botany under the ChAFTA tariff concession, saving 5% in duties. The direct-factory supply model increased the client's retail profit margin by 22.1% and established a stable seasonal re-order cycle.
